The parson of our parish, Father Grzegorz Malewicz, has been on a visit to the USA from June 1st 2018 to June 25th to develop cooperation with an American parish in Springfield and visit a family in Chicago.
I was offered an invitation by Bishop Tomasz Paprocki, whom I met at a dinner. I went to a parish where my colleague, Father Marek Kasperczuk, works, and he introduced me to the community he serves in. Father Marek works in three parishes: Saint Mary in Saint Elmo, Saint Claire in Altmont, and Saint Anne in Edgewood. He also visits a retirement home once a week. I met the local parishioners - first at masses held in their churches and then on parties where everyone brought food to share with others. The meetings started with a prayer, and then we enjoyed our meals. I descibed our parish, praying meetings, and customs in Białystok and our diocese. I told the Americans about Blessed Father Michał Sopoćko, Father Jerzy Popiełuszko, Blessed Sister Bolesława Lament, town Sokółka and its Eucharist Miracle, Sanctuary in the Cathedral of St Mary of the Gate of Dawn, Sanctuary Of Divine Mercy, Różanystok, Krypno, Juchnowiec, and Święta Woda (Holy Water). They asked a lot of questions about these places. They also asked how much money a plane ticket to Poland costs, what clothes they should bring along when visiting us, and what kind of food we eat. I was greeted with great warmth and kindness.
I went on an excursion to Saint Louis and climbed to the top of the Gateway Arch, where one can see the whole city spread before him. I visited the local curia and had lunch with the monsinior. I walked around Springfield, and saw the house of President Lincoln, the parliament, and a cathedral.
The American parishioners expressed a wish to see Poland and our parish.
We are looking forward to it. Thank you all for your prayers.
